Sumadhura Poshan Abhiyan Project – Providing Breakfast to Government School Students
Beneficiaries: Around 300 Students
7 Government Schools in Varthur–Nerige Cluster, Bengaluru
Initiated in Academic Year 2024–25 and Continued for 2025–26
Background
During regular school visits and community interactions, the Sumadhura CSR team closely observed the daily struggles of children studying in nearby government schools. Many of these young students come from migrant families, whose parents work as daily wage laborers, housemaids, or construction workers. Their mornings often begin before dawn as their parents leave early for work, leaving them unattended and without food.
By the time these children reach school, they are hungry and tired, waiting anxiously for the midday meal — the only substantial food they receive during the day. Teachers shared their concerns that empty stomachs were hindering learning, as children found it difficult to focus, participate, or stay active in the classroom.
Moved by this reality, Sumadhura Foundation launched the Poshan Abhiyan Project — a heartfelt initiative to ensure no child starts their day hungry. This program aims to provide nutritious breakfast to government school children, helping them begin their day with energy, focus, and joy.
The initiative also reflects the deeper philosophy of the Sumadhura Group — real growth is when a community grows together. By addressing a fundamental need like food security in education, the Foundation reinforces its commitment to child well-being, education, and social equity.
The Sumadhura Poshan Abhiyan started by providing daily breakfast to nearly 300 students across 7 government schools in the Varthur–Nerige cluster.
