Seed Ball Making & Dispersal Campaign – Greening the Makali Durga Forest Range
Makali Durga Forest Range
Year 2018-2019
Background
With rapid urbanization and deforestation reducing the city’s green cover, Sumadhura Foundation initiated a campaign to restore ecological balance through a Seed Ball Making and Dispersal drive.
The idea was to engage employees, residents, and children from Sumadhura communities in a meaningful, fun-filled environmental activity — connecting people with nature while contributing to long-term sustainability.
Seed ball making is an ancient yet effective reforestation technique that helps repopulate barren or inaccessible lands with trees. It requires minimal effort and resources, making it a perfect participatory activity to promote environmental awareness and stewardship.
During the monsoon season, Sumadhura Foundation, in collaboration with the Forest Department, organized a large-scale multiple Seed Ball making campaigns and dispersal camp conducted at Makali Durga Forest Range, Bangalore. The project served as both an environmental restoration initiative and an awareness campaign, encouraging the community to take collective responsibility for a greener future.
