MNJ Institute: Cancer Equipment Donation
Hyderabad
Background
Cancer continues to be one of the leading causes of mortality in India, and access to early detection and timely diagnosis remains a major challenge—especially for economically weaker sections. The MNJ Institute of Oncology & Regional Cancer Centre, Hyderabad, established in 1955 and inaugurated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, has been serving as a lifeline for thousands of patients from Telangana and neighbouring states.
Annually, the hospital registers over 10,000 new cancer cases and performs nearly 1.5 lakh diagnostic investigations, providing free or highly subsidized treatment to underprivileged patients. Recognizing the institute’s critical role and the need for advanced diagnostic equipment to strengthen early screening and timely detection, Sumadhura Foundation stepped forward to contribute to this noble cause.
On the occasion of World Cancer Day (4th February 2021), Sumadhura Foundation donated a premium ESAOTE Ultrasound Machine worth ₹16.5 lakhs to MNJ Institute of Oncology & Regional Cancer Centre, Hyderabad. The advanced diagnostic equipment has been integrated into the hospital’s screening and radiology unit, significantly enhancing its capacity to conduct mass cancer screening campaigns and improve early-stage cancer detection—a crucial step in reducing mortality rates.
